TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO ), creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders, today announced an enhancement to its current TiVoToGo feature that will allow TiVo subscribers to easily transfer recorded television programming to their Apple iPod or PSP devices.

The enhancement will include exclusive capabilities such as TiVo auto-sync that will allow subscribers to choose if they want new recordings of their favorite programs easily transferred to their portable devices via their PC. Every morning the devices can be loaded with new programs recorded the night before.

"The increasing popularity of mobile devices for viewing video such as Apple's iPod and the PSP device demonstrate the enormous consumer demand for entertainment on the go," said Tom Rogers , CEO of TiVo . "By enhancing our TiVo ToGo™ feature, we're making it easy for consumers to enjoy the TV shows they want to watch right from their iPod or PSP —whenever and wherever they want."

TiVo said it will begin testing the feature in the coming weeks with a select group of TiVo Series2™ subscribers who own the Apple Video iPod or PSP devices. TiVo said it plans to make the feature available to its entire standalone TiVo Series2 subscriber base as early as the first quarter of next year.

Last year, TiVo made available to all its Series2 subscribers the TiVoToGo feature. The TiVoToGo feature allows subscribers to transfer TV shows from their DVR to a laptop or PC over their home network. From the PC, subscribers can watch the shows, or transfer them to devices compatible with Microsoft Portable Media Center format. Today's announcement adds support for the Apple iPod and Sony PSP, as well as the ability to specify Season Pass™ recordings to conveniently transfer to the portable device via the PC overnight.

Subscribers will need to purchase certain low-cost software to facilitate the transfer of content from the PC to these portable devices. To discourage abuse or unlawful use of this feature, TiVo intends to employ "watermark" technologies on programs transferred to a portable device using the TiVo ToGo feature that would enable tracking of the account from which a transferred program originated.

This is a commercial for the Talkman translation app. We can't tell if this is suppose to be a joke like a Japanese Budweiser commerial or if they're really trying to show you how to use the game to hit on American women.

Gizmodo was just speculating yesterday about the release of a headset for the PSP with the SOCOM game. Well they can feel pretty good about themselves because this photo confirms they're suspicions. There was also a pretty big clue with a pre-order page for a SOCOM Headset on EB's site. The only question left now is when Sony will include the voice chat as a regular feature on the PSP? So far, Sony has done well in delivering on some pretty ambitious features for the PSP.

IGN has an article about how the Famitsu peeps have discovered it's possible to play PS2 games on your PSP if you've happened to own a ridiculously expensive Sony PSX. The PSX is essentially a PS2 with DVR capabilities and apparently is on the Location Free compatibility list.

You can access the DVR features of the PSX but you can also load the game that's currently in the PSX. Because of the inherent cost of streaming video, the game play lags a few seconds which destroys the experience for action games. Turned based and strategy games would probably work pretty well though.

It's funny, we were brainstorming and speculating just the other day whether the PS3 could do this if it had Location-Free built into it. The lag issue came up and killed the email thread. It's good Sony is getting the pieces in place so it'll be ready when the tech is cheap and available.

PSP On Tv is another device that let's you play-out the PSP's video on your TV. It definitely looks strange but it's main selling point is that you don't have to modify your PSP and void the warranty which is required by the PSP2TV product by Team Xtender. The no mod part is great but there's definitely questions about image quality and how comfortable it'll be playing a game with a giant funnel attached to the front of PSP.

We see the merits of this device but we're leaning toward the TeamXtender device because of the image quality, S-Video output, 16x9 support and Playstation controller compatibility.


The PSP On TV device should be released in the a weeks. It's estimated at $99 and you can pre-order it here. The downloads are videos of the PSP ON TV in action. It probably would have been a smart move to choose to better TV for the demo.

Datel's 4GB Hard Drive is now on sale at Lik-Sang. The first great news is that it's $199 and not $249, which was the early estimated price. They've done a thorough review and the sent the sucker through the lik-sang lab. There are some really interesting benchmarks on the site with a few common tasks like moving files from your pc, but it would have been cool to see read performance as well for those who insist to play your games off the ISOs. Battery life is still a big question mark.

Lik-Sang tore the device apart and did some brain surgery with the memory. It's got a CompactFlash interface so you could upgrade the thing yourself to larger micro-drives in the future or use CompactFlash if the drive should break.

PSPTV by TeamXTender
This device let's you connect your PSP to your TV! Your games, movies and pics can all play out on your TV. It supports RCA and S-Video outputs and allow you to select between 4:3 or 16:9 screen modes. You can even play games with your PS2 Controller. The bad news is that you will have to do a small modification to your PSP by changing the faceplate and it's a little pricey for the average PSP user at $120. We're definitely going to pick one up and you can find places to pre-order it off the TeamXTender website. It's scheduled for a October 20-30th release.


Hagiwara’s HNT-MDR MemoryStick Duo Recorder
This box let's you easily record a video signal to a MemoryStick and the file is in PSP video friendly format. There are three quality setting (Low, Med High), the best is a 768kb stream at 30fps. They estimate you can fit 150 minutes of video on a 1GIG stick. No word on a price yet and you're probably going to have to buy this from a Japanese importer.



Hori’s Memory Stick PRO Duo Video Recorder
This is another dedicated PSP video encoder by Hori. This box supports four encoding modes with the highest being a 768kbs stream at 30fps, the same as the Hagiwara box. Again, it's only available in Japan and will set you back about $105. Lik-Sang will ship it internationally for $129.


RockRidgeSound PSP Video Recorder
The third and final PSP Media recorder. It the most expensive option at $195 from lik-sang. Not exactly sure this device is worth 2X the other products.

This is for the people who wanna really Pimp out their PSPs. This device merges their X2 battery extender with a 4GB harddrive. Apparently, the hardrive connects to the PSP's memory slot through a cable. It's suppose to cost around $250 so it's definitely expensive for the average PSP owner.

This is a trailer for a new game/application. Talkman is a language trainer and translator. It can do speech recognition through the bundled USB Mic and can repeat the phrase in either Japanese, Chinese, English and Korean. Very futuristic and cool. Nice use of the PSP's USB input as well.
